And ICON hopes that eventually, it can bring the cost of homes down to $4,000. ICON is focused on creating homes in parts of the world that don't have the economic wherewithal to house the poverty-stricken.

There are countless people across the globe without adequate housing and despite all of the efforts being made by governments and non-profits, there's still a long way to go before housing can be secured for those in dire need of it. ICON, a startup based in Austin, demonstrated a low-priced 3D-printed home that's being presented as a potential solution to this global problem.

A startup called ICON says it can make a 650-square-foot house using 3-D printing in 12 to 24 hours.

The partners are hoping to build a community of 100 3D-printed homes in El Salvador next year.

These homes aren't part of the "tiny house" movement and you won't see suburbs of these 3D houses popping up across America. "It's much cheaper than the typical American home", ICON co-founder Jason Ballard told The Verge.

"There are a few other companies that have printed homes and structures".

Together, ICON and New Story are 3D printing homes using a cement mixture.

This 3D Printed small concrete house costs just $10,000.

New Story is also involved in urban planning, and can build homes around schools, play areas and employment opportunities.

How long will the homes last? However, by working alongside ICON, they now have access to the impressive Vulcan 3D printer. For this venture to succeed, they have to be the best houses... It will reduce labor costs and create minimal waste.

3D-printing has become more accessible all around the globe, however, the of adoption of any large-scale utilization of 3D-printing technology is still a challenge.
