Guardiola's much-publicised stance over the situation in Catalonia has become a major issue in his homeland where, according to reports in Spain, the City manager's private plane was searched at Barcelona's El Prat airport last month by police looking for exiled Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont.

Guardiola indicated that the Spain global would be allowed to miss City's training break in Abu Dhabi, which follows the match at Stoke, in order to return to Valencia.

"I think they became stronger players - Xabi Alonso, Mikel Arteta, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas - a lot of young players chose to come here, and play in that league".

City have seen a truly extraordinary turnover and a massive increase in revenue streams since Sheikh Mansour took up the reins back in 2008, and are now the team with the fourth-biggest income in world football. "Today, the players are off, so I don't exactly know the situation".

Silva is considered one of the greatest players in City's history, playing a key role in Premier League title triumphs in the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons.

The playmaker, who missed the surprise defeat to Basel in the Champions League, will be back in the squad to face Stoke.

"The most important thing was we got through, but that was the only positive from the night".

"What has happened has happened".

"I said many times last season he is the guy who has a lot of technical skills", Guardiola said. "Hopefully he can sort it as soon as possible, his lovely kid can grow and grow and he can stay with us".

Describing his first goal, Rashford said: "I think my first touch was actually a bad touch, I couldn't finish in my stride". And more importantly, it was never really questioned, as Liverpool did not quite play up to their standards.

Jamie Carragher Apologises After Spitting on Fan's Daughter on Video
Tonight, Carragher, 40, posted on Twitter: "Totally out of order and I've apologised personally to all the family this evening". Reports said that some of Carragher's spit hit the face of the girl, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

The City boss said: "It's always a tough game, Stoke City, and people talked about that before we came".

The Spain global, who has been with City since 2010, has recently extended his contract. That means a lot to me. He's a huge competitor. "If the game is not going well he makes a step forward and that is so important".

City will be without striker Sergio Aguero against relegation-threatened Stoke while Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling could potentially be involved.

It was their first loss at the Etihad Stadium in 15 months and Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Zinchenko believes it is vital he and his teammates learn from the Basel loss to help them ensure they have a strong end to the season. The bad news is that Stoke are going up against not only the best team in England, but arguably the best team in Europe right now.

"At Wigan we lost because we played for 55 minutes with 10 against 11".

City do not have a game next weekend due to Brighton's involvement in the FA Cup and there is then a two-week worldwide break.

"I think when Sir Alex rebuilt the club it was because he was six or seven years with the same people and after six or seven years and then after do it again".

City medical staff have carried out further tests and informed Aguero that he will return in around two weeks.
