From the list, Microsoft's Xbox One was missing, and the company hen revealed last night that it will support cross-play on Fortnite for Xbox and that it will become available in the future.

Earlier it was reported that Fortnite Battle Royale would be arriving on mobile devices where it would also allow cross-platform play between mobile gamers, PC gamers, Mac gamers, and PS4 gamers.

'Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has always been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles.

Epic Games announced their partnership with Microsoft in a recent post on their website.

After questions began to emerge about why the same was not possible for the Xbox One version, Microsoft and Epic have now confirmed that Fortnite on Xbox One will also have cross-play functionality, but not with the PS4 version of the game.

Xbox One players can play with PC, Mac, and mobile.

They are definitely good news, and they seem to be more in line with Microsoft's positive stance on cross-play functionality in their video games. One step at a time. This has hindered the true cross-platform dream of Xbox users playing with PlayStation users. The Xbox One is still a console and built with the same x86 architecture like the PS4, there shouldn't be any technical differences that would prevent both systems from cross-play.

Last week, Epic Games announced that the hit base-building battle royale title will be making its way to mobile devices. This was promptly shut down by developers Epic who said it was a mistake. The blog reads, "On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac".
