The A-Class is one of the few cars from Mercedes-Benz that isn't available here in the USA but this will look to change once the German luxury carmaker launches the next-gen A-Class.

The newest A-Class grows 30 millimetres and widens its track by 14mm. Capacity goes up 29 litres to 370 litres, with a 115mm longer floor and a 200mm wider loading aperture. This translates into more occupant room and more cargo space. The dashboard has been modernised in-line with the manufacturer's other cars, with two infotainment displays - either seven-inch or 10.25-inch on higher trim levels.

The infotainment system will work with Mercedes PRO connect services which is a fleet management tool that provides information about the vehicle's status as well as its maintenance needs.

A range of new technologies will be launched under the Mercedes Me Connect banner, including intelligent navigation, a vehicle tracker that can remotely alert the driver if an incident happens to their vehicle while parked, and functions such as the availability of auto park spaces and filling station prices.

The new A-Class will be offered with driver assistance systems using improved radar and camera technology.

Driver assistance tech from the S-Class has trickled down to the A-Class, with the combination of Active Distance Assist and Active Steering Assist providing semi-autonomous capability, including the ability to adjust the vehicle's speed for upcoming corners, intersections, and roundabouts. Technologically the new A-Class not only takes first place thanks to MBUX - Mercedes-Benz User Experience: it also offers a number of functions that were previously the preserve of the luxury class. All models of the new A-Class are also powered by new, efficient diesel and petrol engines, and although Mercedes-Benz has retained the sporty appearance, the utility value has increased.

On the diesel front, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine will be available, delivering 114 hp (85 kW) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The A-Class comes standard with front-wheel drive, but buyers can spec the 4Matic all-wheel drive system as an option. United Kingdom prices for the A-Class will be announced closer to order books opening in March.
