Kashmiris observing Indian Republican Day as Black Day

Amidst unprecedented security arrangements Republic Day functions were held in every district headquarter.

This year the main Republic Day function will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium instead of the regular venue, Bakshi Stadium.

Public Works Minister Naeem Akhtar took the salute at a parade in Kulgam.

Such exercises were carried out round the clock in Jammu city while lesser number of people ventured out of their homes in Srinagar due to heightened tensions.

He, however, said that it was yet not authenticated whether the suspect lady was a suicide bomber or not. The arrest came after central intelligence agencies issued an alert to the local police of Kashmir about a suspicious woman who has shifted to the Valley from Pune and was constantly exchanging information with Islamic State (IS) militants.

A high alert was sounded in Kashmir following an intelligence input that a non-Kashmiri woman suicide bomber might disrupt the Republic Day celebrations in the valley.

Director general of police SP Vaid, however, sought to downplay the reports and assured foolproof security for the Republic Day celebrations.

Security forces had laid down a multi-layer cordon around the stadium.

Kashmiri's across the globe are observing a black day to protest India's occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
