Dell's Chromebook 5000 Series laptops will start shipping to schools next month with prices starting at $289. One of the most important factors in classroom laptops is battery life, and Dell says the Chromebook 5000-series offers up to 13 hours of usage between appointments with a wall outlet.

Based on specs and features, Dell's 11-inch Chromebook 5190 is the US company's response to the Taiwanese firm's Chromebook 11 C732, which also boasts of an 11-inch display and a durable body for the classroom environment. Simply called Dell Chromebook 5190, the Chrome OS-running laptop is a rugged 2-in-1 targeted at the educational sector.

On the processing front, Dell is equipping the Chromebook 5000 series with either dual- or quad-core Intel Celeron processors, while the scratch-resistant display has reinforced hinges. In addition to this, there's also stylus support and USB-C (making the 5190 the first Dell Chromebook to adopt the new charging/syncing standard). The laptop still features traditional USB ports that let students plug in their flash drives and other accessories.

Texas-based computer company Dell has introduced its latest entry to the Chromebook market.
