Pence is not scheduled to meet Palestinian leaders.

Though Pence intends to discuss counterterrorism issues throughout the trip, the Jerusalem decision remains a hot topic. But the vice president also is expected to face questions about Israel's future.

As Indiana's governor, Pence signed a bill requiring the state to divest from any business that engaged in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement — a grassroots worldwide boycott movement against Israel. He also is scheduled to visit the Western Wall and Yad Vashem. Rose said of their site visits.

Asked this week to react on Abbas's comments, an European Union spokesperson referred to the EU's position "not to comment on comments".

The vice president said after meeting Saturday with Egypt's President Fatah Abdel el-Sissi that he emphasized the USA commitment to the peace process between the Israelis and the Palestinian Authority.

"My perception was that he was encouraged by that message", said the former IN governor, who himself played a key role IN the decision.

Pence remains popular with evangelical voters in the USA, a large and influential constituency that helped propel Trump to victory in last year's election. So know this: "Your president, your vice president and the American people are not going to put up with it".

Pence was in Egypt on the first leg of a three-country tour that includes stops in Jordan and Israel.

"He's an extension of evangelicalism and evangelical feelings for Israel, and its history", Eckstein said.
