Toyota Adds Amazon Alexa, Android Auto Adds Google Assistant

The Smart Display will act like Amazon's Echo Show where you would get Google Assistant and not the Amazon's Alexa assistant.

With Amazon dominating CES past year with Alexa, it seems that Google can no longer ignore Alexa's growing influence even though Google Assistant is available on phones and tablets.

Even though a Google spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment, Google vice president of engineering Scott Huffman confirmed the company wants to spread Assistant to mobile devices, home gadgets, and cars to Bloomberg. The company may add some more color variants to its lineup in the future. LG is playing both sides, in fact.

CES 2018 is officially under way and Google has set up camp. This was evident not only in whole-home controls but in the vast number of smart doorlocks/doorbells, thermostats, and camera/surveillance systems on display.

Google is also looking into a strategy for buying products and services with Assistant, similar to how Alexa is capable of purchasing items. HiSense, for example, unveiled three new lines of smart TVs, with one line being powered by Android TV, one line being powered by Roku, and another being powered by Alexa so no matter what digital assistant or smart platform you prefer, HiSense has you covered. Sony should join the Amazon Echo Show-challenging party as well sometime "later this year", provisionally keeping under wraps everything about its own voice-commanded, display-sporting smart speaker.
