Fire breaks out at Mumbai airport's domestic terminal, no casualties

Mumbai: A level two fire broke out at the ceremonial lounge of Domestic Terminal 1A of the Mumbai Airport in Santacruz on Saturday. "There was no obstruction in VIP movement", said Chief Fire Officer PS Rahangdale.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke around around 1:45 pm, following which fire department was alerted.

No casualties and injuries have been reported as yet.

At 2.04 pm, Level II fire call was sent out and by 2.40 pm, an alarm was raised for Level III. The fire has been doused.

The blaze started in a PSE&G manhole below a section of Terminal C. According to Newark Airport, the fire has been extinguished and smoky conditions remained for a time after. She clarified that the fire had not hampered other airport operations in any way.

He further said the cause for the fire was yet to be ascertained. "No operations were affected".

"The fire was brought under control at around 3 pm and it was confined to an electrical wiring, installation, wooden furniture, wooden partition, sofa, ceiling etc in an area about 5,000 sq ft", said a fire official.

Only officials with an "Airport Entry Pass", apart from security personnel and cleaning staff, are allowed to enter from Gate 9.
