After seeing the backlash, the American personality took to YouTube to share a 14minute apology. He went on to say that it was his "thing" and gimmick that he used to shock people earlier in his YouTube career.

YouTube star Shane Dawson has been accused of being a pedophile after a podcast interview he did six years ago resurfaced in which he referred to a 6-year-old girl as "sexy". People have fetishes about, you know, everything. "I am not a f--king pedophile", he says repeatedly, insisting that the accusations are "disgusting". "First of all, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but she's like sexy", he said in the podcast. People have foot fetishes, people have fetishes about... everything. "So why is it when somebody looks at naked babies on Google and jerks off to it they can get arrested?" "I don't understand that".

"First of all, let me just say, having sex with children, or touching children, or anything of that nature is bad, and you should not do it", Dawson says.

'So I typed in "naked baby". But, they were sexy.

On Twitter, Shane included another brief statement, saying "I grew up".

"I loved the feeling of making somebody shocked and laugh because they couldn't believe what was coming out of my mouth", he continues. Dawson said at the time he was very insecure and felt like he wasn't confident enough to "make smarter jokes".
