He said, "Be that militant, or any one, they are Kashmiris, they are our brothers".

"Celebrating the death of militants, who were children of Kashmir, can not be justified".

He urged the Centre's special representative on Jammu and Kashmir Dineshwar Sharma to talk to all in the state.

He also expressed his sympathy over the killing of security forces. If a sitting legislator has said it, it certainly calls for an inquiry.

On further questions from the reporters asking him whether he actually feels the militants are martyrs, Mir said, "Jo Kashmir ke hein, chahey kisi bhi halat mein marein, woh martyr hein (Those who hail from Kashmir are martyrs irrespective of the fact under what circumstances they get killed)". They are our brothers.

"They are children who have gone down the wrong track and should be counselled and brought back", Ahmed said.

"If we do no believe in the Constitution of J&K or of the nation, then what would you achieve".

Mir also sympathised with the security personnel killed in the state, saying, "We feel sad when our security forces are martyred as well". The PDP is in alliance with the BJP (in Jammu and Kashmir).

Reacting to Mir's statement, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that terrorists and separatists are enemies of Kashmir.

BJP MLA from Nowshera, Ravinder Raina, said that "glorifying terrorists is like playing with fire and he will take up the matter with the Speaker and also ask Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to reprimand her legislator for such a sensational statement". We should sympathise with the parents of jawans and with the parents of terrorists as well.

However, his statement didn't go down will with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who is in alliance with the PDP in Jammu & Kashmir.
