The first major content update of 2018 is headed to Fortnite soon, and Epic has teased some promising new additions to make the game even more fun to play.

According to Williamson, the Fortnite Battle Royale Map Update must happen since the island on which the 100 players are competing seems to have fewer points of interest in certain places than it should, especially around the western side of the map.

The map update itself will add new POIs and also named areas on the west side of the map, which Eric said is now "a little bit light on points of interest".

An exact date for the update was not given other than "next week", so stay tuned for more information about the patch and when it's due to drop.

In the four months since its surprise release, the Battle Royale mode for Fortnite has seen its popularity rise immensely, with a player count of over 30 million as of last month.

More "quality of life" improvements are also coming, but the update's not specific on what form those will take in the short term. "The second reason is, with all of the additional points of interest on the map update, we've got a lot more treasure chests, a lot more ammo crates, and we wanted to make sure that loot was distributed evenly, so that there isn't too much additional rare loot in the match". While all of this definitely sounds promising, hopefully the implementation of the new map update won't bring about any unforeseen server issues next week. "Really, the different areas of the map feel more unique".
