Bills focusing on Sunday carryout alcohol sales and cold beer sales are on the table in both the Indiana House and Senate. "IN is known as being a great state for doing business, and I believe licensed retailers should have the option to do what is best for their business by making the decision to sell warm or cold beer in their stores". The Association's chair, Jon Singer, testified in the House Chamber on Wednesday.

"In the past, it has been we have been too restrictive to the entities that it affects", Alting says.

After being debated on the Senate floor, senators will vote on whether to push the bill through to the House, where it will be debated and voted on again.

After testimony, Alting's bill, Senate Bill 1, passed out of committee by a 9-0 vote. Senate Bill 273 also deals with cold beer sales and it includes additional provisions for the clerk, the store's permit fees and provisions involving penalties for violations.

A Senate committee easily and unanimously approved legislation Wednesday to allow grocery, convenience, and liquor stores to sell alcohol on Sundays.

Even as support for Sunday sales increases, the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking expressed concerns about the bill's current language.

"We're just concerned that sometimes there are advertisements for the Super Bowl for beer right next to you know, kids books and things like that", said Lisa Hutchenson, Vice President of Indiana's Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking.

The House Public Policy Committee, looking at House Bill 1051, is expected to hold its vote next week.

Smaltz said, "Anything can happen in this process when it comes out the committee". We will also be working to improve civil forfeiture laws and will work to allow the carryout sale of alcohol on Sundays.

"It's unanimous that it's simply the time to do a Sunday sales bill", said Sen. The state now limits carryout sales of cold beer to liquor stores and some restaurants.

A measure that would allow convenience stores, big box retailers and pharmacies to sell cold - and not just warm - beer faces a far more uncertain fate. Sunday sales, he believes, stand "a pretty decent chance" of gaining legislative approval.

Liquor stores have fought Sunday sales for years, predicting as many as a quarter of IN liquor stores could go out of business.
