Baton Rouge rapper Kevin Gates released from IL prison on parole

Fans of New Orleans rapper Kevin Gates are determined to declare, Jan.10, as "Kevin Gates Day".

The Baton Rouge rapper was released from prison on Wednesday morning in IL after serving 9 months in jail.

As has been previously mentioned in the coverage leading up to Gates' release, he's out on parole and under mandatory supervision for the time being.

He was released from the state prison on parole, TMZ reported.

Billboard reached out to Gates' reps for comment. Although Gates is most known for his mixtapes, he released his debut studio album in January 2016. "Kevin Gates got 180 days in jail for kicking a fan who kept grabbing him, he tried to use the Florida's Stand Your Ground law, but was denied".

Originally given a 30-month prison sentence for a felony gun possession, Gates only served nine months behind bars.
