FIR registered against Fortis Hospital in dengue death controversy

Adya Singh was diagnosed with dengue shock syndrome before being admitted to Gurgaon's renowned hospital for treatment.

Giving details, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, Vinay Pratap Singh, said instructions had been issued to all hospitals in Gurugram that in any case pertaining to dengue or swine flu, the hospital would immediately inform the Health Department.

Father of a seven-year-old girl, who died of dengue at the Fortis Hospital, has filed a police complaint against the hospital group, but no FIR has been registered in the case, police said on Sunday.

He has also asked the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to look into the possibility of cancelling the hospital's land lease. "We chose to take her to another hospital, but Fortis doctors refused to even facilitate an ambulance", the girl's father said in a statement.

The private hospital, released a statement, amid reports that it had "offered money" to Jayant Singh, father of Adya Singh, to allegedly not pursue the case further.

On Thursday, Haryana health minister Anil Vij ordered Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, be removed from the list of government empanelled hospitals due to the case. "We are waiting for an official copy of the inquiry report on the matter by a government panel", he said.

Singh in his complaint has accused a senior consultant (paediatrics and neonatology) of removing the ventilator pipes and ambu-bag attached to his daughter causing her death.

A statement from the district administration on Sunday evening said that additional sections may be added or more people included during the probe if police feel the need.

He said that the IMA protocol says that if a patient is discharged against medical advice, then proper arrangements should be made to transfer him or her to another hospital.

Fortis is facing charges of wrong treatment and negligence that led to the death of Adya after 15 days of treatment at the hospital on September 14.

The father of girl has also lodged a complaint against the hospital.

He also pressed charges of destruction of evidence, forgery and criminal conspiracy against the management, treating doctors and staff.
