Appeals officer Derrick Brooks - a Hall of Fame linebacker who has served the NFL and NFL Players Association since 2014 - made a decision to cut Trevathan's suspension in half, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Upon appeal, Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan has had his suspension reduced to one game for his brutal helmet-to-helmet hit on Packers receiver Davante Adams in Green Bay's 35-14 win on Thursday night, the National Football League announced Tuesday. The rule states "there shall be no unnecessary roughness".

Trevathan was suspended two games for the play, and Adams was released from the hospital within 24 hours. "This shall include, but will not be limited to, (i) using any part of a player's helmet or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily". His hit knocked out the receiver and he had to be taken from the field via stretcher. Trevathan also expressed regret for the hit.
