USA lawmaker wants North Korea out of the UN

The US Pacific Command said the North Korean missile that passed over Japan travelled 3,700 kilometers and landed in the Pacific Ocean.

The Security Council stressed in a statement after a closed-door emergency meeting that all countries must "fully, comprehensively and immediately" implement all United Nations sanctions.

The 15-member Security Council also emphasized the vital importance of the DPRK immediately showing honest commitment to denuclearization through concrete action and stressed the importance of working to reduce tensions in the Korean Peninsula and beyond. Pyongyang had fired its second missile over Japan in less than a month on Friday, prompting the United States to say it has military options to deal with the North, signalling its patience for diplomacy is wearing thin.

The move comes a day Pyongyang threatened that the four main Japanese islands "should be sunken into the sea" with its nuclear bomb and the United States to "ashes and darkness" for supporting a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution imposing new sanctions against it for its September 3 nuclear test, its most powerful by far.

This weekend United States bombers and fighter jets took part in a new show of force against North Korea. The North accuses the United States, which has 28,500 troops in South Korea, of planning to invade and regularly threatens to destroy it and its Asian allies.
